Mrs. Simmons was active at the Southern Baptist Convention, Clarendon Baptist Church in Arlington and the Linden Heights Baptist in Staunton. She was superintendent of the Women's Missionary Union in the Mount Vernon Association from 1965 to 1967. She was a member of the Stonewall Women's Club, the Bull Pasture Extension Club and was active within the communities of Arlington and McDowell. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Sidney L. Simmons; a daughter, Dr. Lyn Ann Weaver of Ocean Isle, N.C; a son, Sidney Forrest Simmons of Staunton; a brother, Glen Allen VanLear of Staunton; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew. Burial will be at Augusta Memorial Park. on August 31, 2004.3

Norris Elwood Weaver Norris Elwood Weaver, 84, of Broadway, Virginia, was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, September 15, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was born April 23, 1935, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to the late Tilman Jefferson and Barbara Ann Painter Weaver. Norris graduated from Harrisonburg High School, Dunsmore Business School, National Business College, Blue Ridge Community College, and Madison College with a degree in business administration. He worked for Sears, Bliley and Lindsey Funeral Homes, Walker Manufacturing, was a long-term substitute for Rockingham County Schools, Virginia, Whiteville City Schools, Columbus County Schools, North Carolina, and co-owner of Norlyn Enterprises, convenience stores. He was a charter member of the Briery Branch Ruritan Club with perfect attendance. He held all club and zone offices, including Zone Governor in 1987. Upon returning to Virginia, he joined the Broadway-Timberville Ruritan Club. Norris was a member of Harrisonburg Baptist Church. He was an avid gardener, cross stitcher, reader and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Navy. On May 27, 1967, he was united in marriage to Lyn Simmons Weaver in Arlington, Virginia. They resided in Rockingham County, Virginia until 1989 when they moved to Clarksville, Virginia. In 1992 they moved to North Carolina, living in Whiteville then Ocean Isle Beach. Norris spent many happy hours watching his grandson surf. They returned to Virginia in 2005 to be near their daughter who was living in Broadway, Virginia. Norris is survived by his wife, Lyn, of Broadway; his daughter, Tonya Bowers, her husband Thomas; four grandchildren, Courtney, her husband Andrew, Justin, Sydney, and Skyler of Bridgewater; one brother, Jeff Weaver and his wife, Dot of Bridgewater; father-in-law, Sidney L. Simmons of Fishersville; and one brother-in-law, Sidney F. Simmons of Staunton. He is further survived by nieces, one nephew, many cousins and friends. Josephine Jane Hall Mrs. Jo Hall Moricle, age 93 of Woolwine, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at her home. She was born in Floyd County on October 2, 1928, to the late Frank Oakley Hall and Beulah Wade Hall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lane Akers Moricle, Sr; one daughter, Lynette Moricle Morrison; one son, Butch Moricle; two sisters, Mildred Perry, Frances Call; and three brothers, Bill Hall, Freebe Hall, and Frank Hall, Jr. Jo had been a schoolteacher for over 40 years. She was a member of Smith River Rescue Squad and Sycamore Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and bible school and also sang in the choir. She enjoyed gardening, mowing her lawn, and painting. She loved animals of all kinds. Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Debbie Moricle of Woolwine; son-in-law, Ricky Morrison of Woolwine; five grandchildren, Dusty Moricle and wife, Jessica, Shasta Harbour and husband, Jamie, Jansen Morrison, Braeden Morrison, Brad Morrison and wife, Kricket; six great grandchildren, Lettie Moricle, Valley Harbour, Libby Harbour, Sam Harbour, Kinley Morrison, Oakley Moricle; one great great grandchild, Asher Shell; one sister, Belle Thompson of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews. Clyde Russell Perry Mr. Clyde Russell “Pete” Perry, age 81 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023 at his home. He was born in Floyd County on June 29, 1942 to the late Christopher Clyde Perry and Mildred “Mim” Bonniline Hall Perry. In addition to his parents, Mr. Perry was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Wayne Perry; two brothers-in-law, Lonza Hatcher and Jimmy Hatcher; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Fain. He attended Ross Harbour Methodist Church and retired from Narroflex with many years of service. He loved everyone at the plant that worked for him. He served in the United States Army from 1960 through 1963, first at Fort Belvedere and later in Frankfort, Germany. He loved working in the garden and orchard, anything involving outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Perry is survived by his wife, Etta Hatcher Perry of the home; four children, Rhonda Cooper (Charles) of Anderson, South Carolina, Becky Harris (Jeff) of Patrick Springs, Julie Mize of Fieldale and Jay Slate of Stuart; six grandchildren, Ryan Mize (Emily) of Fieldale, Nate Harris (Ashley) of Patrick Springs, Perry Cooper of Phoenix, Arizona, Bennett Cooper of Clemson, South Carolina, Kristian Reynolds of Stuart and Aiden Slate of Stuart; one great-granddaughter, Ella Grace Mize, and one on the way; a brother, Christopher Perry (Betty) of Roanoke; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Kaufman (Ira) of Pleasant Grove, Betty Browne (Fred) of Clawson, Michigan; a brother-in-law, Herbert Hatcher of Collinsville; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Ross Harbour Methodist Church.
