     Lt. Col Larry Belmont Wimmer Lt. Col. Larry Belmont Wimmer of Forest, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018. Lt. Col. Wimmer was born in Roanoke, VA, on September 27, 1937. He was the son of the late Eldridge (Alex) Wimmer and the late Grace Williams Wimmer. Larry married Judy Allen Worley of Vinton, VA, in December 1958 and were to celebrate 60 grand years of marriage this year. Larry wanted to express his deep love for his wife Judy and her unwavering commitment, loving care, and compassionate support throughout their marriage, for their children, and his health these past couple of years. Without you being by his side, Larry could not have been as strong as he was. It is Larry’s request that you know how much he cared and loved the strength and compassion you held for your family and him. In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his daughter Sherrie Krantz, her husband Larry; their four daughters, husbands, and their children. Aimee and Michael Purvis with Zoee & Avree; Kristy and Jesse Wood with Hunter & Cooper; Erica and Blake Hudson with Kaedee and Braeden; and Kandace and Adam Nickerson with Kenzee; his son, Lt. Col. Marc A. Wimmer, his wife Karen and their children, Kaylin, Davis, and William; two sisters, June W. Sink and Lois W. Woods, and one brother, James E. Wimmer. Larry attended grade schools in Roanoke including Jefferson High. He graduated from Fork Union Military Academy in 1956. He earned a BS degree in Physics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VT) and a MS degree in Physics from Lynchburg College. He further studied accounting and finance at CVCC. Lt. Col. Wimmer began his Air Force career in 1958. He initially trained in the field of Pharmacy and worked in USAF hospitals overseas and stateside during the first four years. He transferred to the Virginia Air National Guard in Richmond, VA, and became a Crew Chief on the F-84 and F-105 fighter bombers. He received a commission as a Second Lieutenant and advanced through the aircraft maintenance shops. He retired as Commander of the 192nd Maintenance Group on September 30, 1995. Larry came to work for B&W in Lynchburg in September 1967 where he began his nuclear career working on the internal design of the 177FA reactor. He later became a supervisor and spent the last few years with B&W working at various nuclear sites until retired in December of 1987. Larry began his AREVA career working with the Department of Energy in Northern Virginia from 1991 until 1996, working on the DOE Yucca Mountain Project. He returned to Lynchburg in 1996 and continued work in the nuclear fields until he fully retired in the early 2000s. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.2 He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.2,3 He was born on September 27, 1937 at Roanoke, Virginia.3,2,4 He married Judy Allen Worley on December 20, 1958 at Clifton Forge, Alleghany Co., Virginia.2,5 Lt.
