Mr. Carpenter, a Jacksonville, Fla., native, was a former resident of Quincy, Ill., and had lived in the Jackson area since 1983. He was a Vietnam veteran, who had served 14 years in the U.S. Air Force. "I have lost a real dear friend," said Jai Bhagat, senior vice president of Mobile Communications Corp. "He was my right-hand person. I don't know what I'm going to do without him. I used to joke with him that it would take three people to replace him." Bhagat said his friend and colleague worked too hard. "Quite often people had to tell him, I had to tell him, to slow down," he said. "Terry was a wonderful person and a real good friend. He was so devoted to whatever he did, whatever was assigned to him. He left no stone unturned." Survivors include: wife, Rene; son, Ryne David Carpenter of Brandon; daughter, Terry Anne Carpenter of Brandon; and parents, Ken and June Carpenter of Callahan, Fla. on May 22, 1988.³

     Earnest Lee Lockhart Grapevine - E. L. Lockhart, 68, of Springtown, died Friday, Oct 24, 1997 in a Grapevine hospital. He was born in Montgomery, Alabama, April 1, 1929. Mr. Lockhart retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 34 years of service as a communications-electronics manager. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Springtown. Mr. Lockhart served as past mayor of Springtown for six years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a past Master of Eureka Masonic Lodge 371 of Springtown. Mr. Lockhart was a member of Joplin Masonic Lodge 939, a Shriner with Masonic Lodge with Scottish Rite Bodies, and a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John T. Lockhart Jr. in 1922; his parents, John T. Lockhart Sr. and Victoria Szymanski and step-father Joe Szymanski. Mr. Lockhart will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and friend. Survivors include his wife, Sue Lockhart; one son, Robert Lockhart, three daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Randy Jean, Rene' and Jimmy Carter and Sharon and Tommy Miles, all of Springtown; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his mother-in-law, Sue Carrier of Springtown; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jerry Dottie and Ken Mitchell of Springtown.
