David Pruitt will officiate. Internment will be in Woodland Cemetery with American Legion Post No. 14, Pocahontas, in charge of graveside rights. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three children, Ernest with the U. S. Air Force in England, Bamford, at Sampson Air Force Base in New York, and Jack of Boissevain; two sisters, Mrs. Emily Parcel of Stralee and Mrs. Elizabeth Keesee of Keystone. Pallbears will be Greg Harmon, Irvin Thompson, Leonard Lawson, Roosevelt Murray, M. B. Mangus, O. E. Mangus, W. H. Saunders and Harry Hess. on September 18, 1953.3

He was born at McComas, a son of Mrs. Beulah and the late Jess Evans. He had been a resident of Bluefield for the past eight years. He was retired from the U. S. Air Force, where he held the rank of staff sergeant. Three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. Survivors in addition to his mother, are his widow, Maxine Davis Evans of Bluefield; three sons, Robert Evans of Orlando, Fla., and Ernest Evans Jr. and James Evans, both of Bluefield; three daughters, Sharon Demetree of Orlando, Fla., Carol Evans and Patricia Evans, both of Bluefield; and two grandchildren. Entombment will be at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Military graveside rites will lie conducted at the cemetery. on July 13, 1973.6

He was a veteran of the Korean conflict where he served in the U.S. Army. He had been an avid bowler for the past 10 years at both Mountaineer and Green Valley Bowling Lanes. Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Thomas. Survivors include his wife, Jettie M. Gearheart Nicewander of the home; two daughters, Wanda Nicewonder and husband, Bill of Carol Stream, Ill. and Cindi Gaughan and husband, Dave of Lake Station, Ind; three sons, Robert E. Nicewander and wife, Ina of Las Vegas, Nev., Daniel Nicewander and wife, Diana of Chicago, Ill., and Michael Nicewander of the home; one sister, Nancy Thomas Hatley of California; one brother, Daniel Thomas of Chicago; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Military graveside honors will be performed by the Big Sandy District American Legion Post #175 and the Mercer County Veterans Council. on August 14, 2001.5

Mrs. Gearheart enjoyed going out for dinner, baking, annually attending family reunions, and she was an avid fan of wrestling. She was a loving homemaker and was thankful for every day she had with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Gearheart is survived by her sons, James E. Gearheart, Jr., and Kenneth W. Gearheart and wife Carol; daughter, Diana Gearheart-Parris and husband Jeffery; loving grandchildren: Laura M. Gearheart, Mason K. Gearheart, Dylan James Parris; step-grandson, Billy Miller; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James E. Gearheart Sr; and her brothers and sisters. A service in celebration of Eleanor's life will begin at 10:30 am followed by burial in Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle. on December 7, 2011.2
