Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. until the hour of service Monday at the funeral home. Melvin was born March 9, 1942 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, son of Lewis M. and Ruth L. Hile Smith. Melvin retired from the U.S. Army following a prestigious 23 year military career. Among other accomplishments, Melvin served two tours in Vietnam, participated and completed Airborne, Recondo, and Ranger Schools and was a highly-respected Jumpmaster and Air Assault School Instructor. Following retirement Melvin was a driver for Florim USA.
