     Herman J. Frye Herman J. Frye, the son of Herman B. Frye and Etta Leona Whitaker, was born on Feb. 19, 1922 in Ava, and passed away on July 21, 2009 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Ill., at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 2 days. "Shug" served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing, golf and checkers, and also spending time with his family. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Moline, Ill., and a former member of the Ava United Methodist Church in Ava, Mo. Shug would move from Ava, Mo., to Milan, Ill., and after retiring from International Harvester in Moline, Ill., moved back to Squires, Mo., until leaving to live at the home of his daughter in Hampton, Ill. He is preceded in death by his parents; a former wife, Dorothy Lucille Hicks; his wife, Ethel Frye; three sisters, Donna Jean Frye, Maxine Frye and Faye Sherman; and two brothers, Dwayne and Jack Frye. Shug is survived by his daughter, Cheryl McLaughlin and her husband, Mike, of Hampton, Ill; two sisters, Luna White, of Springfield, Mo., and Martha Lee Marshall, of Bolivar, Mo; his brother, Jim E. Frye, of Squires; a grand¬daughter, Tera Elliott, of Hampton, Ill; great-granddaughters Courtney Elliott, Audrey Elliott and Chelsey and Alexa Ellis; a great-great-granddaughter, California Elliott; a stepdaughter, Sherian Robinson, of Dewitt, Ark; and step-grandchildren Sheba Snyder, Porter Gill, Sheria Gill, of Dewitt, Ark., Frank Dobbins, of East Moline, Ill., Sam Dobbins, of Colorado, and Brent Rouse, of Rock Island, Ill. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 24, at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava, with the Rev. Dr. Wilfred Karsten officiating, and interment at the Fannon Cemetery, Ava, Mo.1 He was buried at Fannon Cemetery, Ava, Douglas Co., Missouri.1 He and Dorothy Lucille Hicks were divorced.1 Herman J. Lynn worked as an amazing, talented architect for over 42 years at various architectural and engineering firms where his passions and creations came to life. He loved Frank Lloyd Wright and he thoroughly enjoyed sharing his love of architecture, design, attention to detail, and quality with all he met. Lynn was a man of great strength who many respected and recognized for his strong principles and beliefs. He enjoyed a hobby of passion for woodworking. His creations were meticulous and always beautiful. So many of his pieces and his individual works will stand the test of time. There was not a thing Lynn could not tackle or figure out. His talents were boundless. He was an amazing "GG" to his three great-grandchildren - they simply adored him. His witty sense of humor will be remembered by all he touched. More than anything, anyone who knew Lynn knew of his love for the UVA Cavaliers. He loved his Wahoos. on October 29, 2023.3
