     Frances Lavone Silver Frances Lavone Avery's life here on earth ended peacefully, on Friday, September 23, 2016 at the home of her daughter in Olathe, KS. Frances' life began on May 15, 1924. She was the first born child to proud parents Frank June and Mabel Frances (Brown) Silver who resided in rural Hale, MO, Hurricane Township, in Carroll County. As a youngster she attended several country schools. Her parents moved to the town of Hale, MO where she began first grade in 1930. When the family moved to Livingston County, she attended Hazel Green School, Center Country Schools, and also Bedford School where she graduated from eighth grade. In 1939, her parents relocated to Avalon, MO where she completed her high school years, graduating in 1942. In 1942, Frances married her high school sweetheart, Harry Avery, Junior. Their wedding was held on January 9, 1942 in the home of their minister Olive Faye in Chillicothe, MO. The couple lived in Missouri their entire life, first in Avalon, later Chillicothe and settled in Carrollton in 1952. They raised three children: Lloyd, Karen, and Arlene. Frances was a busy stay-at-home mother throughout the elementary school years of her children. Being a PTA member she participated as a room mother; as well as Cub Scout Den Mother, 4-H Leader and Brownie/Girl Scout Leader. As a member of the Carrollton Methodist Church, she assisted with the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) during the years her children were involved. Frances also kept busy with a life-long interest in local civic and social clubs. She was a founding member of the Merry Minglers Extension Club serving as their first President in 1955-1956. Frances also was a Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge #598, having been a member for over 50 years from 1952 until they disbanded in 2004. In 1974, Frances was honored to receive the Business and Professional Women's Club "Woman of the Year" award and enjoyed being active in that club. She was an active member of the Carroll County Republican Women's Club and often assisted on Election Day and at the local Republican Headquarters prior to various elections. She served as Republican Committee Woman for Ward IV from 2006 until 2008. Frances enjoyed a strong interest in genealogy and was a founding member of the Carroll County Genealogical Association that was formed in 1997. Since the founding days of the CCGA, Frances continually held an office within the organization. Her final elected office was as a two-term President with her last term in office ending only a few years prior to her death. She was a charter member of the Guild of Colonial Artisans and Tradesmen 1607-1783 and was a lifetime member of the Carroll County Historical Society. Frances was also a member of the local chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution. Along with several others, including her husband, Frances compiled material to create the Carroll County Country School book which was sold to the public. Her interest in genealogy continued throughout her later years when she would spend hours reading historical papers and family history. She began a business career in 1964, first as a florist at Main Street Floral in Carrollton, then in the Circuit Clerk and Recorders Office located at the Carroll County Courthouse. She was Deputy Clerk for 23 years until her retirement in 1989. In their retirement years, Frances and Junior traveled extensively throughout the United States including Hawaii. Her church attendance first began at East Grace Church, a country church near Hale, MO. She was baptized at the Baptist Church, Hale, MO. When the young couple moved to Avalon, Frances taught Sunday School at the Methodist Church. After they moved to Carrollton, they became members of the Carrollton Methodist Church. In addition to church activities that involved her children, Frances served on committees such as grief support which provided meals for grieving families. Frances is survived by her three children: Lloyd Avery, of Brewster, MA, Karen Miller and husband Clay of dual residence, in Fairway, KS and Arrow Rock, MO, and Arlene Avery, of dual residence in Carrollton, MO (health advocate and caregiver for her mother) and Olathe, KS; three grandchildren: Mark Avery and wife Elizabeth, of Dennis MA, Greta Avery, of Orleans, MA, and Carie Hagedorn Wright and husband T.J., of Leawood, KS; three great-grandchildren: Charles Lloyd Avery, of Dennis MA, Samuel Avery Wright and Jacob Henry Wright, of Leawood, KS; one sister, Marjorie Fontaine (Silver) Forbes, of Blue Springs, MO; two sisters-in law; several nieces; nephews; and cousins. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband. Frances will Lie In State, on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 North US 65 Highway, Carrollton, MO.      Harry Hollis Avery Jr. Harry Hollis Avery, Jr., was born 03 July 1921 in Hale, Carroll County, MO, the first born son of Harry Hollis Avery and Bernice Kathryn Lyons. He was reared in rural Carroll and Livingston County areas, starting school at Bridge Creek and graduating from Avalon High School in 1939. He married his high school sweetheart, Frances Lavon Silver, on 09 January 1942 in Chillicothe, MO. After their marriage, "Junior" continued working with his father in the family garage and trucking business, as well as farming. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Hussey Bros. Construction, Avalon, and then McServey's, Chillicothe. In 1952, the family moved to Carrollton and Harry continued construction work with Beck and Harris Construction Company and later partnered in the Pence and Avery Construction Company. He worked on the building of the Longview Lake Dam and later with Ellis Construction Company constructing portions of I-70, I-435, and the Blue Springs Dam. In semi-retirement he was a sales represenative for Precision Oil Company. Harry joined the "Independent Order of Odd Fellows", first with the Avalon Lodge in 1947 where he served as Noble Gran and later transferred to the Carrollton Lodge where he served for many years as Treasurer. In 1977 he joined the "Wakenda Masonic Lodge #52" and was a member of the "Carrollton Shrine Club" and the "Ararat Shriners." He was a member of the Methodist Church, Avalon, transferring his membership in 1952 to the United Methodist Church of Carrollton. After a little more than a months stay in St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, MO, where he had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer, he was admitted to Carroll House Nursing Facility in Carrollton, MO on Monday, 14 May 2007. He passed away two days later on 16 May 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only two brothers, Wallace Eugene and Gerald Lyons Avery.
