     Frank Selby Frank Selby, son of Justice and Eliza Jane Selby, was born eight miles east of Moravia on April 6, 1867, and passed away very suddenly at his home in Moravia on Dec. 6, 1942, at the age of 75 years and 8 months. On Oct. 1, 1896, he was united in marriage with Miss Ora Myrtle Nowels. To this union three daughters were born, all of whom are now living. They are Mrs. Fern Handy of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Fontelle Swenson of Ottumwa, and Miss Oneita Selby, also of Los Angeles. Besides his wife and three daughters, Mr. Selby is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Diana Ashby and Mrs. Mattie Angel; one brother, John Selby; two grandsons, Waldo E. Handy and Frank Selby Handy; and two sons-in-law, Russell Swenson and Waldo Handy. Mr. Selby was a member of the Moravia Methodist Church and a life-time member of Class 9. He has served his church loyally through the years in a number of ways. He was also affiliated with the Yoeman and Woodman Lodges. His long time residence at Moravia and his years of service as a rural mail carrier have won for him a large circle of sincere friends who mourn his passing. He was a devoted husband and father.3 He was buried at Moravia Cemetery, Moravia, Appanoose Co., Iowa.4 He was born on April 6, 1867 at Appanoose Co., Iowa.3 He married Ora Myrtle Nowels, daughter of John Edwin Nowels and Eva Jane McKern, on October 1, 1896 at Appanoose Co., Iowa.2,3,5 Frank Selby died on December 6, 1942 at Moravia, Appanoose Co., Iowa, at age 75.3

He had been in failing health for many years and the past few years in a nursing home. He was born in Appanoose county, Sept. 22, 1882, the son of John and Eva McKern Nowles, [sic] and moved to Moravia Feb. 2, 1891. He was married to Eula Johnson of Lucern, Mo., about 37 years ago, who survives. A daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Saber of Des Moines, and one granddaughter, also survive. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Alonzo Turner of Moravia, and Mrs. Edward George of Rialto, Calif. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the Turner funeral home, Rev. John Grenfell officiating. Burial was in the Moravia cemetery. on June 30, 1955.6

     Cassius LeRoy “Roy” Nowels was buried at Elmwood Cemetery, Fruita, Mesa Co., Colorado.2 He was born on July 20, 1874 at Iowa.2 He married Luella May “Lula” Maggard on November 18, 1903 at Woodward, Woodward Co., Oklahoma.3 Cassius LeRoy “Roy” Nowels died on October 22, 1930 at Mesa Co., Colorado, at age 56.2 He Roy Nowels Died at Loma on Wednesday - Well Known Man to Be Buried at 2 O'clock Saturday Afternoon at Fruita. Roy Nowels passed away Wednesday morning at his home just west of the Loma store, after an extended illness, and the funeral services will be held at the chapel of the Starks-DeYarman funeral home in Fruita at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. J. Edwin Elder of Fruita will have charge of the services and burial will be in the Fruita cemetery. Cassius LeRoy Nowels was born in Lorahia, Ia., on July 20, 1874, and he passed away at the age of 56 years. He had been a resident of the western states for some years and was well known in Loma, where he had made his home for years. He had been in Soldier Summit, Utah, for a time, but a few months ago he and his family returned to Loma when he became ill. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Lula Nowels, and four childen. The three younger children are aged 6, 8 and 14 years, and the older daughter, Mrs. Wallace Hurley, and her husband are enroute to Fruita from their home in Ontario, Calif., to be present at the funeral. on October 23, 1930.2

She was the widow of a Loma area farmer, Cashes LeRoy Nowels, who died in October 1930. The Nowels came to Mesa County 35 years ago from Oklahoma. They were married at Woodward, Okla., on Nov. 18, 1903. Mrs. Nowels was born at Norton, Kan., on Nov. 18, 1886. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving are a son, Everett, of Ogden, Utah; three daughters, Mrs. Ethia Hurley of Glendale, Calif.. . . and . . . , and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Martin's Chapel. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. on April 11, 1964.1 She died on April 11, 1964 at Mesa Co., Colorado, at age 77.1

He was 76. Mr. Nowels was a trapper, farmer; stockman and miner and had lived in Loma and the Lower Valley from 1929-1948. He was born Dec. 28, 1911, in Ames, Okla. He married Zona Cato. They were later divorced. She survives. Mr. Nowels served with the U.S. Army in World War II for four years. Other survivors include a son. . ; three sisters, Ethia Hurley and Wilma Thompson, both of Pacific Groves, Calif., and Margie Boyd of Denver; two grandsons; and a granddaughter. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. June 17. Burial was in the Veterans Garden of Honor in Phoenix. on June 21, 1988.2

Funeral and burial will be at Moab [Grand County], UT. on April 6, 2006.2
