Mae Blackwell, 80, of South Charleston died June 30, 2000, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston. She was a retired cook who had worked at several area restaurants and a native of Point Pleasant. Surviving: sons, John P. of Charleston, James Delbert "J.D." and John P. III, both of South Charleston; brother, H.O. Noble of Spring, Texas; two grandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor Mark D. Thaxton officiating. J.D. and his wife, Jane, were both saved at Brown's Chapel, Dry Ridge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane L. Blackwell, and brothers, Vernon Blackwell and John Paul Blackwell. J.D. is survived by nephew, John Paul Blackwell; several nieces; and a host of friends and neighbors. A special thanks to nurses, Billie Cullison and Scott Casdorph, and caregivers, Rhoda and Brian Gandee, for their loving care. Blackwell of South Charleston went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, after a short illness. She graduated from Winfield High School and retired from Union Carbide as a cashier after 20 years of service, then became a homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, J.D. "Delbert" Blackwell; brother-in-law, John P. Blackwell, and nephew, John P. Blackwell II, both of South Charleston; special cousin, Allen Simms and his wife, Barbara, of Winfield; and special caregivers, Carol and Johnny McDavid of South Charleston.
