Olan was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Coffey, Mo., to Ethel and Norval Courter. He was graduated from Coffey High School in 1938 and was on the basketball team. He served honorably and with pride in the United States Army during World War II. He married Maxine Bozarth on Oct. 17, 1942. She preceded him in death Aug. 8, 1991. Olan, and his wife, Maxine farmed in Coffey and in Pattonburg, Mo., until retiring to St. Joseph in 1981. He loved his yard, vegetable garden and his family in his retirement. Mr. Courter also was preceded in death by his parents, Norval M. and Ethel M. (Gardner) Courter; and brother, Henry Courter. Survivors: daughters, twins, Karen Willits, and husband, Tom, Easton, Mo; and Sharon Bushbom, and husband, Tom, Maysville, Mo; and Patty Dull, and husband, Gary, Kansas City, Mo; son, Richard (Pat) Peck, Plano, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Joseph. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Darren Peck, Richard Dull, Kevin Dull, Ed Cook, Jerry Courter and Tom Fanning. Honorary pallbearers are Merlin Carstenson and Bill Marcell. The family suggests memorial gifts to Hands of Hope Hospice or Culbertson United Methodist Church, Stewartsville, Mo. on July 26, 2007.2
